The Infection Prevention and Control team work within the Public Health Directorate, but support all aspects of the council to reduce the risk of infections. The team specifically support the commissioners to ensure that all providers of health and social care are compliant with the Code of Practice for infection prevention. There are 400+ adult residential homes; children residential homes; schools (mainstream and those supporting children with special educational needs); and numerous domiciliary and supported living providers. The team also provide infection prevention support and advice to the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.


The Job Role/Key responsibilities 

Working across a range of service areas you will use your professional skills, sometimes in challenging circumstances, to provide infection prevention and control interventions to improve safety for users and employees of local health and social care services. This role also has a substantial Public Health element, currently focussing on COVID-19, but also encompassing the broader healthcare associated infection agenda.  

Key responsibilities: 

  • Use clinical knowledge in infection control to embed evidence based practice
  • Manage the delivery of the COVID-19 action plan.
  • Advise Clinical Commissioning Groups and health and social care professionals on issues relating to the prevention and control of health care associated infections.
  • Develop project plans and risk management strategies.
  • To actively participate in a Root Cause Analysis and Post infection Reviews
  • To support health and social care providers with the management of outbreaks.



The Job Requirements 

Applicants must be currently on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register as a Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate will have 2 years post registration experience, some of this in a role linked to infection prevention or quality assurance.

A post-registration qualification in Infection Prevention is desired.
