Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the key deliverables of the Trading Standards Service, with responsibility for providing support to the various teams at the front end of protecting consumers and supporting honest businesses.

The role will lead on the delivery of effective intelligence activity and planning, providing support to the Trading Standards Management Team to develop policies and strategies. You will also lead on the development of an annual strategic, assessment as well as providing regular reports internally and to government and external agencies

You will be an intelligence specialist or at least be committed to championing its use as part of the service's culture, preferably from a trading standards, police or complex regulatory environment with substantial relevant experience.

With great people skills you will also be a people manager, as well as managing the intelligence function and its officers you will manage a small but busy business support team ensuring a variety of finance / procurement / licensing and administrative actives and other developing requirements are effectively carried out, freeing up front-line officers from bureaucratic processes.

As a Principal Officer you will be ensuring the work of your teams support the whole range of trading standards functions whilst you will have lead responsibility for scam prevention work and Age Restricted Sales test purchasing activities.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and project management skills. You will need to maintain an unusual mix of knowledge of relevant legislation, including Age Restricted Sales, PACE, Information Governance, Data Protection & Regulatory Investigatory Powers.

You may be required to work outside normal working hours, when necessary, to participate in evening / weekend age restricted sales projects. A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.
